Free tax preparation services will be offered to the elderly and low to middle income tax payers through the Tax Aide volunteer service. Open now through April 15th, the site at St Mary of the Valley on 7495 Church Street in Yucca Valley, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For Appointments call 365 3355. The 29 Palms site is at the 29 Palms Library, from 10 AM to 4 PM every Friday through April 10th. Appointment only, call 365 3355. Tax clients are required to bring their prior year’s tax return and social security cards for themselves and dependents and tax documents pertaining to the 2008 year. If you are elderly or disabled and not able to drive to the tax site, Reach Out Morongo Basin will support this service and may be able to arrange transportation. Call them for help and assistance at 361 1410. Church Street is a regular MBTA bus route and MBTA will be willing to stop and let you off right there.

COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS MONTHLY MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY
The Morongo Basin Chapter of the Compassionate Friends will hold their monthly meeting, this Wednesday, from 4:30 to 6 PM at the office of Hospice of Morongo Basin in Joshua Tree. Kristin Martin will be the facilitator. Compassionate Friends are a national support organization reaching out to parents who have experienced the death of a child. It’s a grief journey and there is support here for you. Call Kristin at 258 4803. We promise, she will know where you’re coming from.

The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino will distribute surplus food to low-income residents of the county during February. Monday, February 9th is the only day on which distributions will be made at sites in the Morongo Basin, in the morning at

  • The Church of the Lighted Cross, at 11518 Elbow Lane in Morongo Valley, from 8 to 10
  • Belfield Hall, 58380 Reche Road in Landers, 8:30 to 10:30
  • The Community Center in Yucca Valley, 8:30 to 10:30
  • Copper Mountain Mesa Foundation, 65336 Winter Road in Copper Mountain area, 9 to 11
  • The Community Center in Joshua Tree, 9 to 11
  • Sunset Village Apartments, 6036 Sunset Road in Joshua Tree, 9:30 to 11:30
  • The fire station in Wonder Valley, 10:30 to 11:30, and
  • The Senior Center at 6539 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms, from 10 to noon

 

Proof of income and address may be provided in a variety of ways, including self-certification on a form that will be available at each site. Recipients are requested to bring their own paper or plastic bags. The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino is a private, non-profit organization that seeks to serve the low-income families, elderly, disadvantaged and homeless of the county. TOMORROW THE TWENTYNINE PALMS WILDCATS SOCCER TEAM MEET THEIR DOPPLEGANGERS, THE SALTON CITY WILDCATS

It will be a catfight in local high school soccer tomorrow. The 29 Palms High School Wildcat boy’s soccer team will host their namesakes from Salton City’s West Shores High School, also known as the Wildcats. The match happens at 3:15. When we say, Go Wildcats, you do know who we mean.
